Kurt Buermann Awarded the 2023 Lynn Wolbarst Sustainability Award

Sustainable Sharon Coalition (SSC) is thrilled to announce its 2023 Lynn Wolbarst Sustainability awardee is Kurt Buermann.  Kurt served tirelessly as President of Sharon Friends of Conservation (SFOC) for over 20 years.  In that role, he has designed and built footbridges and boardwalks in wetland areas with the help of Boy Scouts and SFOC members; he has mapped trails on town conservation lands, made information about trails available online, and started a trail stewards group to make sure the trails continue to be maintained.

Kurt organized the successful bluebird nest box monitoring project. The Sharon Friends of Conservation now maintains about 30 bluebird nesting boxes around town.  He leads hikes and cares deeply about getting people outdoors.

Over the years he has also increased SFOC membership, has improved and maintained the SFOC website, chaired Board meetings, and worked with the town’s Conservation Commission and Conservation agents. He also spearheaded the successful campaign to save a parcel of land near King Philip’s Rock that is the site of ancient Native American astronomical observations.

Sustainable Sharon Coalition would like to congratulate Kurt for his tireless work to help preserve the natural beauty of Sharon for all to enjoy. For that, we are so fortunate that he is part of our community and are proud to recognize him for his achievements.
