Transportation

Choosing to travel sustainably saves energy, improves air quality, promotes health, decreases congestion, conserves land, and saves money.

Green Commuting Ideas

Carpool and cut your commute costs in half; Bicycle and use your own foot power to commute to work; Ride Transit aboard a bus or a train (or even a boat!) and let someone else do the driving; Find carpool matches through Mass Ride Match; Join an existing vanpool group or start your own; Walk and get in those extra steps.

Ride Match

The Sustainable Sharon Coalition and Massachusetts Ride Match are here to help you improve your commute and reduce the number of solo drivers on our roads.

Safe Routes to School Program

The Safe Routes to School Program is an initiative of the Massachusetts Department of Transportation to encourage and support kids walking and biking to school. In 2018, Cottage Street School won Exemplary School of the Year (Southeast Region) thanks to its community efforts encouraging its students to ride their bikes or walk to school. Learn more here.

Complete Streets

Sharon is becoming more walk-able and bike-able, thanks to a new initiative called Complete Streets. A Complete Street is one that provides safe and accessible options for all travel modes – walking, biking, transit and vehicles – for people of all ages and abilities. Read more here.
