2021
Started a Read for the Planet book group to engage readers in discussions on climate change and the environment.
Helped promote Sharon Power Choice and began campaign to encourage residents to step up to the “Green” (100% renewable) option.
Suggested ways to the Select Board on how to reduce trash and save money so they can incorporate in future town trash policies.
Started the SSC Kids program to provide fun ways for elementary aged kids to gather and actively learn how to lead a more sustainable life.
Participated at Sharon Conservation Days and Sharon Day events, educating the community on recycling and other environmental topics.
Ran a community Halloween bike ride to encourage more biking around town.
Participated in Conversations at the Meetinghouse, educating attendees on recycling, safe roadways, and the power grid’s relationship to nature.
2020
Participated in Conversations at the Meetinghouse, educating attendees on how to transition to more of a plant-based diet, the Sharon Solar Network, habitat loss in our area, and why and how to reduce waste.
Gave educational presentations to town boards, officials, committees and residents on the dangers of PFAS in artificial turf, leading to successful passing of Citizen Petition—Artificial Turf Field Three-Year Moratorium at October Town Meeting.
Worked with school and town officials to fill the Sharon Public School Recycling Coordinator position.
Ran promotions for Black Earth Compost helping the town reach 300 households thereby lowering the price for everyone’s curbside pickup by 40%.
Co-sponsored a litter cleanup event at Beaver Brook near the train station.
Piloted a renewable energy internship program for 5 high school students.
Co-sponsored a webinar, “Shining a Spotlight on Environmental Justice: How Climate Change, Public Health, and Racism Intersect,” with Sharon Racial Equity Alliance (SREA), and Temple Sinai.
2019
Thanks to ongoing conservation efforts, Sharon’s water use of 337 million gallons for 2018 tied with 2017 for lowest since 1985.
Began a town campaign in March to refuse plastic bags, and passed the Citizen Petition – Plastic Waste (Bags) Reduction Bylaw Amendment at Town Meeting in May.
Succeeded in passing a non-binding Citizen Petition – Resolution for Sharon to Adopt a Goal of Reducing Greenhouse Gas Emissions to Zero by 2050.
SSC Youth raised $1800 and arranged with town to plant trees at Deborah Sampson Park (now an annual event).
Kicked off “Sponsor a Street” campaign to encourage regular ongoing cleanups of neighborhood streets.
Helped persuade Senator Markey to file amendment proposal HJR.48 in the Senate to pave the way for climate legislation.
Spread the word campaign to vote “YES” on Rattlesnake Hill conservation land and solar panel projects at Special Town Meeting, resulting in residents voting to permanently preserve Rattlesnake Hill, and construct four new solar installations on town land.
Helped influence the Standing Building Committee to vote to double the insulation in the new High School design to reduce carbon emissions.
