Installing Solar Electricity on Your Home

Many of us want to transition away from fossil fuels -- mainly gas and oil with their greenhouse gas emissions -- to renewable sources of energy. A good choice is to begin by using solar power. It is popular across the county and throughout the world. The technology is sound and developed; installation is routine.  For the consumer, it lowers the cost of our electric bill. For the planet, it eliminates those greenhouse gas emissions that cause climate change by trapping heat.

Briefly, Solar Electricity -- also known as solar electric systems, solar PV, or solar photovoltaics -- converts sunlight into electricity through an array of panels (usually rooftop) that connect to the building’s electric system and/or the electrical grid. The energy that your panels generate helps to produce your electricity; the specific arrangement depends on the type of setup. You retain your current electricity to make sure you always have power if your solar production is insufficient; this is more likely to happen in the less sunny winter season.

We are fortunate in Sharon to have neighbors whose houses now display solar panels. We also have solar companies with lots of experience and expertise; they work with homeowners to determine if rooftop solar is right for your house, and the suitability of your roof; to specify the array (location and number of panels) specific to your home, upfront and projected costs, monthly and annual savings, contract options, financing and rebates, and more.
