Sharon Participates in Massachusetts’ Green Community Program
What does Green Community mean?
The Green Community Program, part of Massachusetts’ Department of Energy Resources, is a collaboration between the state and its cities and towns to integrate municipal energy efficiency and reduce carbon emissions. Towns must apply for and demonstrate a high degree of energy efficiency to be accepted into the program. Sharon began participating in 2017. As of 2020, 271 of Massachusetts’ 351 cities and towns participate.
Being a Green Community town enables Sharon to have access to state grants for clean, affordable and resilient municipal energy projects that reduce greenhouse gas emissions, promote energy-efficient building construction and foster renewable energy and clean energy technologies.
