Sharon Streets are Becoming More Accessible!

Sharon is becoming more walk-able and bike-able, thanks to a new initiative called Complete Streets.

A Complete Street is one that provides safe and accessible options for all travel modes – walking, biking, transit and vehicles – for people of all ages and abilities.

The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Complete Streets Funding Program was created by legislative authorization through the 2014 Transportation Bond Bill with the intent of rewarding municipalities that demonstrate a commitment to embedding Complete Streets in policy and practice.

Thanks to the Sharon Board of Selectmen; Town Administrator, Fred Turkington; Town Engineer,  Peter O’Cain; and DPW Superintendent, Eric Hooper, Sharon has now achieved Tier 2 Status with MassDOT.

A special thanks to Sustainable Sharon member Sandra Widland, and Heather Zelevinsky, who worked to support this initiative.
