Another Successful Green Day!

Despite the soggy weather, Sustainable Sharon’s 5th Annual Green Day event went off without a hitch.  While the majority of activities took place inside the Congregational Church Hall, many hearty vendors and craftspeople set up tables underneath tents in the church parking lot.

GREEN DAY 2016 INSIDE CC Over 28 organizations turned out to educate the public on sustainable and environmentally friendly living.  Ever wished you could harness the energy in your kid?  Well, if you had come to Green Day, you could have.  The Sharon Cub Scouts equipped a regular bicycle with an alternator, and connected it up to a light display.  Kids took turns to light up the display using their own pedal power!  The scouts also had solar ovens and wind turbines on display.

Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary, Moose Hill Farm, and Sharon Friends of Conservation shared news of environmental programs, upcoming activities, and trails for hiking.

GREEN DAY 2016 CRIDGEActivities included planting edible flowers, using microscopes to view creatures from local pond water samples, and enjoying delicious milk and ice cream from Crescent Ridge, as well as fruit from Shaws of Sharon.  Kids who completed Sustainable Sharon’s “Quest” earned a free slice of pizza, courtesy of Pizzigando.

Many alternative energy vendors were on-hand, including Homeworks, a Mass Save home energy assessment or that provides no-cost, in home energy assessments to help you save money, energy & the environment.  Sustainable Sharon has partnered with Homeworks to help improve efficiency throughout town. GREEN DAY 2016 JUG BANDAs tradition goes, Green Day had a great musical lineup, as the Mighty Silverbacks rocked the house, followed by new local band, The 2nd Precinct Jug Band, whose up-beat, toe-tapping sound closed the event with good cheer.

The Sustainable Sharon Coalition would like to extend its gratitude to the Congregational Church, the Sharon Selectmen, the DPW, and Boy Scout Troop 95 for their support and generosity.
